A Love Story Through Northern Spain: Marissa and Kate’s Honeymoon Adventure
When Marissa and Kate, a spirited couple from Nashville, reached out to plan their honeymoon, they had one request: a journey that blended adventure, gastronomy, and romance. Together, we crafted an unforgettable route, taking them from the vibrant streets of Barcelona to the tranquil vineyards of Rioja and beyond.
From Barcelona to the Pyrenees
Their adventure began in Barcelona, where the lively streets, captivating architecture, and Mediterranean charm set the tone for their trip. From there, they headed north into the Pyrenees, pausing in the picturesque medieval village of Ainsa. After a morning hike amidst the rugged beauty of the mountains, they indulged in a gastronomic masterpiece at Callizo restaurant. It was a perfect blend of nature and culinary artistry.
San Sebastián: A Pintxo Paradise
Their next stop was San Sebastián, where I had the privilege of introducing them to the city’s famous pintxos. Together, we strolled through the bustling Old Town, sampling bite-sized delights paired with local wines. The evening culminated in a guided city tour on bikes, offering them panoramic views of the city’s beaches and landmarks as the sun dipped into the Bay of Biscay.
Getaria: Coastal Wines and Grilled Perfection
The following day, we ventured to Getaria, a charming fishing village steeped in maritime tradition. Here, Andrea hosted a tour of the renowned K5 Txakoli winery, where the crisp, coastal wines offered a true taste of the Basque Country. Lunch was a feast of freshly grilled fish by the harbor, a simple yet exquisite nod to the region’s culinary roots.
Rioja: Where Love Meets Wine
For the next two days, we explored the heart of Rioja wine country. Marissa and Kate visited intimate vineyards, meeting small-scale winemakers who poured their passion into every glass. They stayed at the beautiful Hotel Santa María de Briones, a perfect retreat that echoed the region’s rustic elegance. One evening, they dined at Nublo, savoring a meal that was as memorable as their surroundings.
The Grand Finale: Sepúlveda and Madrid
On their final day, we made a memorable stop in Sepúlveda en route to Madrid. This quaint Castilian village, with its cobblestone streets and timeless charm, felt like stepping into a storybook. Over lunch, we shared a traditional feast of grilled lamb, surrounded by locals who welcomed them with warmth and curiosity.
Marissa and Kate’s honeymoon was more than a trip—it was a celebration of connection, culture, and the joy of discovery. For me, it was an honor to share the essence of Northern Spain with them, creating memories that will last a lifetime.
