the basque countryside - a land of shepherds

general overview

The countryside of the Basque country is a land of shepherds. The landscape is dominated by steep mountains and deep valleys. A multitude of 'Baserris', that is how we say traditional farm, hang from the steep slopes defying gravity. Baserris  are oftenly surrounded by apple orchards and escorted by flocks of sheep. The life in the Baserri is and has been a humble life of sweat and effort to work the land. They don't just pump up our region with their wonderful cheeses and vegetables but are also keepers of tradition.
